15 August 2016 / Categories: Healthy City, Food Carlisle Local Healthy Options Award The Local Healthy Options Award is given to businesses that have a good Food Hygiene Rating and provide healthier food choices, techniques and use locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. Businesses that achieve a score of at least 75% are given the Local Healthy Options Award and those with a score of 100% earn the Gold Award. Since the successful launch of the scheme last year, 11 gold awards and 5 standard awards have been achieved by local businesses. Emma Goodman from Off the Wall Coffee Shop was one of the first award winners and achieved gold in January 2015. She said: "Winning the award had a very positive impact on the business. Being food conscious has been important to us from when we first opened Off the Wall Coffee Shop in 2009, so it was such an honour to have had our love of food recognised by winning a Local Healthy Options Award." Emma has recently expanded the business and adds that is has been a great showcase of their products and has given them the added opportunity to talk to customers about their beliefs in food. Carlisle College is the latest winner of the Gold Award. Andy Dodds, Director- Business Development & Marketing at Carlisle College said: "We are delighted to achieve gold standard in the Local Healthy Options Awards in recognition of our focus on healthier food options for our students and the use of our locally sourced produce. The food that we offer plays an important part in contributing to the wellbeing of our students and to our learning environment. The award has provided a focus for making changed to our food offer and the feedback that we have recieved to these changes has been very positive."
