11 May 2017 / Categories: Healthy City Carlisle Community Health Mela Join us on Saturday 13th May 2017 between 10am and 4pm in Carlisle City Centre for Carlisle's second Community Health Mela The day will again be centred on a series of “Streets” set up in the City Centre. These “Streets” will allow a wide range of activities and advice giving, provided by local and national organisations, to take place including; Health & Wellbeing advice and support Healthy Food and Cooking Gardening Complementary & Listening Therapies Exercise & Entertainment Rotarians have engaged with several local schools to arrange art and writing competitions related to Health & Wellbeing. Local book shop owner, Steve Matthews from Bookends of Carlisle has supported the writing competition. The winners have now been chosen from over 500 entries from primary schools in the area. They will receive their prizes from the Mayor of Carlisle Councillor Colin Stothard and Steve Matthews during the opening of the Health Mela at 10am on the 13th May. One of our winners included the following in their entry; “The boy who only ate burgers realised to be fit, well and strong That variety was key to being healthy, So he tested out pears and plums from the tree. …….. “ There will be a range of entertainment and activities during the day including Laughter Yoga with Keith Adams, Aerobic Exercise with DW Sports & Fitness, Creative Wellbeing will be providing activities for both children and adults, and Healthy Cooking demonstrations are being given by John Crouch. Local First Responders and TicToc will be giving CPR demonstrations and we have a few surprises up our sleeves. There will also be the opportunity to make your own Smoothies whilst taking exercise on one of the static cycles. BBC Radio Cumbria will be broadcasting from the event.
