Stuart superUser / 27 June 2016 / Categories: Healthy City, Food Carlisle Fair Meals direct Fair Meals direct is a not-for-profit scheme set up to ensure that nutritious meals are available to people in Carlisle, and many of the surrounding villages who are not able to make such food for themselves. All meals offered by the new service are tailored to suit the preferences of older people in the community and prepared using some produce sourced from within a 30-mile radius of Carlisle – reducing food miles, helping the environment, helping to ensure a market for local food producers and providing a boost to the Cumbrian economy. Advanced in partnership, the meals are prepared by professional cooks based at the Water Street family centre in central Carlisle, from where they are delivered to homes across the district by a team of volunteers, having a key link in positively impacting on our Healthy City agenda. Anyone wishing to sign up to Fair Meals Direct will be given a menu each week, from which they can simply select the meals they would like to order. The food is seasonal, menus are changed regularly, vegetarian options are available and specific dietary requirements can be catered for. Meals are available from Monday to Friday – however, people are not required to order food every day. For more information please call 01228 267167 or email Trish at: email@example.com. There is a YouTube video about the community meals on wheels service in Carlisle, Cumbria, provided in partnership between Sustainable Carlisle and Water Street family accomation.
