15 August 2016 / Categories: Carlisle Housing Flood Resilience Grants In December of last year, Cumbria was hit by Storm Desmond, which affected thousands of homes and businesses across the country. In response to the flooding the government made £50 million available to people in Cumbria to help their homes and businesses become more resilient in future by having access to a £5000 flood resilience grant administered by the local authority. This money is to assist households and businesses to put in additional protection against flooding and the future risks to health and property. Properties are being made more resilient and winter ready through resistance products or resilient repairs. Carlisle City Council has been working with JBA Consulting to provide independent surveys to households on Property Level Protection. Business Emergency Resilience Group (BERG) started working with Carlisle on 13th July 2016 to support businesses and households prepare applications for the grant money. Any applications for the grant must be made on or before 31st December 2016, with final payments to be made by 31st March 2017. The scheme is open to all flood affected businesses and households and is not means tested.
